What’s New in Riot Games eSport?

This new event, slated for March, will feature the top five teams from across the globe. Riot is shaking things up with a three-split system to make room for this exciting addition. If you love a bit of structure and strategy, this change will keep you on your toes.

Merging Leagues for a Unified Front

In a move to make esports more sustainable, Riot Games plans to merge several leagues. The LCS, LLA, and CBLOL will combine into a single American league, similar to what we’ve seen in VALORANT. Over in Asia-Pacific, the LCO, PCS, VCS, and LJL will form the APAC league. This consolidation aims to streamline competition and bring out the best in each region.

A Small But Mighty Tournament

The new tournament will be an international LAN event featuring only the winners from the five major regions: LEC, LPL, LCK, Americas, and APAC. Though smaller in scale, this competition promises high-quality gameplay, showcasing each region’s crème de la crème. Expect intense battles and top-tier tactics as these champions go head-to-head.

The Three-Split System

With the introduction of this tournament, all regions will transition to a three-split format, previously seen in the LEC. Here’s the breakdown: the first split, called the Winter Split in the LEC, leads into the new international event. After this, the second split sets the stage for the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI). Finally, the third split will culminate in a Regional Championship, a highlight from the LEC in 2023.

Slots and Championships

Regions will now have distinct slots for each significant event: one slot for the new March tournament, two for MSI, and three for Worlds. In addition, the MSI champions and the second-best-performing region will earn extra slots for Worlds. This structure raises the stakes and gives more teams a shot at international glory.

A New Era for LoL Esports

These changes mark a significant development in the League of Legends esports ecosystem. Riot Games eSport sets the stage for a dynamic and sustainable future with a fresh tournament, merged leagues, and a revamped schedule. As a fan, you can look forward to more thrilling matches, innovative strategies, and the best teams competing at the highest level.

Get ready for an electrifying 2025 season!
